Virginia Hammon, MS, Oregon
A lifetime optimist, Virginia believes that when we have information, understanding, and decision-making skills, we make good decisions together. Dedicated to researching the foundations of our current political dysfunction, she found a practical path to a better future in monetary reform.
Her exhaustive study of the U.S. Government’s financial reports led her to create a simple way to clearly report them to citizens which she presented in her previous book, On the Road to Great Democracy: Simple and Honest Financial Reports (2007). She went on to study the monetary system itself, reading hundreds of books on money and the economy. She has reviewed the financial reports of the Fed from 1914 to the present, as well as the financial reports of the U.S. Government, which began in 1997.
A background as a Montessori educator, a Director of a graphic design studio in Teheran, a Head of School in Hawaii, an internet startup CEO in San Francisco, and a community mediator-activist, informs her work. Understanding the U.S. national financial reports led to research and writing on the money system itself. Her book, Wheels of Commerce: Money Circulates (2017) is a quilter’s amuse bouche mini-introduction to money. Her 2018 book, US Money: What is it? Why we must change. How We Can, adds depth and additional information to the summary here. A version of the latter illustrated with quilts is in the works. Virginia has four wonderful children and eight grandchildren.
